Description: Nalidixic acid (also known as NSC-82174), a synthetic 1,8-naphthyridine antimicrobial agent, is the first of the synthetic quinolone antibiotics with a limited bacteriocidal spectrum. It is an inhibitor of the A subunit of bacterial DNA gyrase.Nalidixic acid is effective primarily against gram-negative bacteria, with minor anti-gram-positive activity. At lower concentrations, it acts in a bacteriostatic manner; At higher concentrations, it is bactericidal.
