Description: Flumethasone (also known as RS-2177, NSC-54702) is a glucocorticoid receptor agonist. It reduces insulin-dependent glucose utilization in calves at 24 hours after treatment. Flumethasone combined with sodium ceftiofur reduces the mortality rate in calves with severe acute bronchopneumonia and their clinical and haematological parameters returns to normal significantly faster than in the control calves.

Cell Assay

In Vivo Flumethasone (0.5 mg/100 kg b.w.) reduces insulin-dependent glucose utilization in calves at 24 hours after treatment. Flumethasone combined with sodium ceftiofur reduces the mortality rate in calves with severe acute bronchopneumonia and their clinical and haematological parameters returns to normal significantly faster than in the control calves. Flumethasone (5 mg) has a significant effect on recovery of uterine disease in cattle with ketosis. Flumethasone (5 mg) increases plasma glucose concentration and decreases serum beta-hydroxybutyric acid and urine acetoacetate concentrations following treatment in cattle with ketosis. The Flumethasone level in the treated animals is generally above the detection limit although, in most cases, the concentration of Flumethasone is lower than the corresponding glucocorticoid level in the dexamethasone-exposed calves. Flumethasone is also detectable in the accompanying urine samples in calves. Flumethasone binds to plasma transcortin, and it becomes active when it is not bound to transcortin.
