Description: Diosgenin is a plant steroid which induces apoptosis in colon cancer cell lines and induces apoptosis,cell cycle arrest and COX activity in osteosarcoma cells. It is a steroid sapogenin used in the semi-synthesis of pregnenolone, cortisone, and progesterone. Diosgenin has estrogenic activity and can reduce the level of serum cholesterol.
