Description: Tazobactam is a β-lactamases Inhibitor with antibacterial activity. It also inhibits the class D oxacillinase OXA-2. It is used in combination with piperacillin and other β-lactam antibiotics to broaden their spectrum and enhance their effect. Tazobactam is commonly used as its sodium salt, tazobactam sodium. Tazobactam is combined with the extended spectrum β-lactam antibiotic piperacillin in the drug piperacillin/tazobactam, one of the preferred antibiotic treatments for nosocomial pneumonia caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
