Description: Formestane (also known as CGP-32349, NSC 282175) is a second generation, selective, orally active, synthetic steroidal aromatase inhibitor with an IC50 of 80 nM. Formestane is a substance with antineoplastic activity. Formestane binds irreversibly to and inhibits the enzyme aromatase, thereby blocking the conversion of cholesterol to pregnenolone and the peripheral aromatization of androgenic precursors into estrogens.
